Rock Star INXS Product Placement

The Rock Star: INXS, CBS’s new Mark Burnett show was distant second in the overnights (4.1/ 6) and total viewers (6.31 million), but No. 1 among adults 18-49 with a 3.1/ 8 in the demo. It improved on Monday’s lacklustre premiere numbers (5.5 million), and did a respectable job of holding its 18-49 demographic lead-in from 9pm’s Big Brother 6 (8.5 million). Besides Burnett’s reported product placement deal in exchange for stock with SLS International, it appears as though INXS is reaping the benefit from all of the attention …. Simon & Schuster has acquired the rights to “INXS: Story to Story,” to be released just in time for a Fall tour. If Burnett is as smart as I believe he is …. he’s got to be involved with any future band business as well. The only area where I feel his productions are falling flat is in the arena of Internet buzz … the only ‘pre-launch’ he’s doing is via the publicity mill from the networks and not taking advantage of any of the buzz experts @ outfits like Green Tentacle or Buzz Marketing.
