TV Executives – DVRs Are Good

Published on February 24, 2007 by   ·   No Comments

Network Executives making a joint new conference and chatting with Congress… kind of reminds me of the Tobacco executives… In what I consider to be an incredibly risky move… executives are saying that research is showing that DVR households not only watched more TV… but DO NOT skip as many commercials as had been predicted. According to this well written article in the Hollywood Reporter The overall message sent by the network brass was simple: Everything you thought you knew about DVRs is wrong. They said many of the findings about DVRs, viewership behavior and commercial skipping were done with early adopters whose viewing habits aren’t the same as the majority of TV users. The oddest quote is this: “Rather than being a threat to network TV, (the DVR) is actually a positive development,” What is the source of this incredibly wrong data …. Arbitron’s Portable People Meter and Nielsen Media Research’s existing DVR data. (Didn’t Neilsen and the Networks have a disagreement about ratings a while back ???) Another silly quote: “The DVR is going to enhance, increase the viewership to the major network television programs and (is) going to increase the amount of advertising exposures,” These guys @ the networks are so funny!!!
