H & R Block Product Placement

Published on February 27, 2007 by   ·   No Comments

We’ve got to give it up for H&R Block. I’m certain their 2005 planning is done, but when ?Jeopardy? uberchamp Ken Jennings (winner of $2.5 million) lost his crown due to a question about H&R Block, they jumped at the opportunity to land him as both a client (free tax preparation) but to also include him in an upcoming campaign.

?H&R?s people have some very clever ideas about ads starring Jennings,? says the source. ?They would be along the lines of ?You can be the smartest guy in the world and still not know where to get your taxes done.?? The insider says the plans are ?still in the discussion stages.?

This is similar to a campaign several years that our team attempted to put together. When a ‘familiar’ teen spokesperson for Dell brands was canned by the brand, we attempted to negotiate a pickup by one of their competitors. The brands did not move fast enough and lost the opportunity. The key lesson – move quickly.
