General Motors (GM) has cancelled the company?s endorsement contract with Tiger Woods. The move ends the pro-golfer?s nine-year endorsement deal with the renowned auto manufacturer.
In a GM press release, the company said GM and Woods, ?? agreed to a mutual and amicable separation that included a desire for more personal time for the [golfer] who is expecting his second child in late winter as well as the search for budget efficiencies during a difficult economy for GM.?
Nine years ago, Tiger Woods signed with GM, but he has been rarely used by GM. However in 2008, GM?s used Tiger Woods to carry an ad featuring the Buick Enclave luxury crossover. The campaign had many ad spots, which featured Woods confessing what he likes about his Enclave.
Last June, GM launched a Buick promotion titled ?Tee Off with Tiger,? where fans were asked to guess Woods? score on every hole he played through his fall tourneys. The winner will be given a chance to caddy Woods through the Torrey Pines course.
As the auto industry continues to suffer, many manufacturers will continue to decrease investments. Whatever these companies have, they will dedicate to more pressing matters that can take their company through the economic crisis.
