Top Chef Product Placements

Published on November 29, 2008 by   ·   No Comments

In a recent article from RealityWanted.com, correspondent Arthur Perkins made a shortlist of product placements during the third episode of the on going show ?Top Chef,? which is currently in its fifth season.

It?s not surprising to find out that the show was used as a springboard to advertise some of its products?in this case, two of them.

During the third episode, contestants were tasked to rip a random page out of the Top Chef-branded cook book. They were challenged to reinvent the recipes of the ripped page. Although the challenge was improvised a couple of moments later, the shots of the book allowed for a great introduction for the product. Once viewers see the tasty meals that are being cooked on the show, they?ll immediately refer to that cook book.

The second product placement comes from a sponsoring company: Swanson?s Broth. One of the challenges entailed cooking up broth and since there was too little time to make one from scratch, the contestants were given an unlimited supply of Swanson?s Broth.

The conclusion? The kitchen provides the perfect venue for product placements. The setting makes the product appearances seem casual, but the target audience is sure to retain the branded products/ingredients the next time they shop for groceries.
