Coca-Cola has recently unveiled the company?s newest city product placement in New York Times Square. But the digital billboard?s size is not the reason why it is drawing so much attention, it?s the technology. This display is supported by environment-friendly wind power, which has triggered a trend for ad billboards on the renowned intersection of 47th and Broadway in Manhattan.
An official spokesperson for Coca-Cola said that the wind-powered billboard has an electric supply agreement with ConEdison Solutions and the building management company. This one-of-a-kind billboard saves more than 1,800 metric tons of carbon dioxide a year compared to conventional digital billboards.
The soda manufacturer will also launch a new ?green? campaign platform themed ?Refresh. Recycle. Repeat.? The campaign promises to reuse all Coca-Cola aluminum cans and plastic bottles sold in the US.
?Coca-Cola has always held a historic place in Times Square, where we’ve been one of the longest continuous billboard advertisers, starting in 1932, and we are proud to lead this renewable energy movement on the Great White Way,? asserted Dana Barba, assistant vp for portfolio operations at Coca-Cola.
Sometime in January, Coca-Cola will stage a recycling event in New York City?s Bryant Park. On January 10 and 11, the company?s recycling team will be on standby at the New York Public Library where they will teach consumers recycling tips and entertain them with trivia and games. The Coca-Cola reps will also display various items that are made from recycled plastic bottles of Coca-Cola.
