The Harlem Globetrotters are making their debut in cyberspace with two advergames titled ?The Original Harlem Globetrotters Dunk Off!? and ?Globetrotters Spin That Ball.? Both will be available to browsers on Candystand.com by Thursday.
The deal was officially announced during a private VIP event held at Madison Square Garden last week.
The strategy was to extend the comic exhibition of the team to Web. It will also be an efficient way to announce upcoming games and sell tickets. The advergames will feature actual players from the Globetrotters roster, including Special K and Scooter.
?The only difference between our games and a banner ad is our games are fun,? asserted Scott Tannen, president of Funtank, which runs gaming portal. ?People spend 15 minutes on average playing them.?
According to internal statistics, Candystand.com averages 10 million visitors per month and currently houses more than 100 games.
