Apple?s iPhone has triggered a new trend in marketing?mobile-applications advertising.

To date, there are over 1 billion applications have been served. There are more than 35,000 applications available today and more than 30 million devices in the market.

When consumers are not using their phone to text or call, they are most likely using or downloading branded mobile applications. According to reports, an average iPhone owner has more than 20 applications on his/her mobile device.

The market has good growth prospects as more and more companies are jumping into the fray. Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia announced its intentions to enter the market with Ovi Store, which features 20,000 available applications. The company will be competing against BlackBerry, Google?s Android Market, Microsoft, and Palm in the mobile application market.

Outside of mobile phone manufacturers, brands and advertisers are eager to enter the market too. Companies (like Adidas, Chanel, Audi, and Levis) have launched branded applications that have been widely successful in the market.
