German television is now open for product placement

German television viewers will soon be exposed to product placement. The regulators decided to loosen product placement laws last Thursday, which will allow brands to be featured on television shows.
Beginning April, German television shows will be able to integrate products and brands with plots.
The new ruling is applicable to commercial and public channels; however, public networks are prohibited from selling product placement opportunities to advertisers.
The government is hoping that product placement will help offset production costs.
