Wimbledon: the place for tennis and product placement

Published on June 22, 2010 by   ·   1 Comment

For the past years, Wimbledon has been showcasing more than just tennis. The most coveted tennis tournament in the world is also a venue for product placement.

In England, designers and fashion houses are spending millions to dress up female players.

According to The Times of London, clothing sponsors have collectively spent more than $7 million to dress up top female tennis players for the annual event.

Stella McCartney dressed Caroline Wozniacki, the Danish tennis player, for Adidas.

?It was really important to show real women working out and showing their bodies, and to marry the two worlds, fashion and sport, which is what the collaboration is all about,? explained McCartney to The Times of London.

Nike, on the other hand, dressed up Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams.
