Days of Our Lives criticized for poor product integrations

Days of Our Lives, the famous soap opera series, is being criticized for over-the-top product placements.

In one episode, Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) goes on a picnic and confesses her love for Chex Mix, which her date hasn?t heard of. ?Are you serious? Have you been living under a rock?? asked Sami. ?It’s so good. You have to try it. It’s like a million flavors exploding in your mouth!?

The two end up fighting for the snack, and it spills on the guy?s shirt. Then he says, ?Now you can have them.?

The series also featured Cheerios and Wanchai Ferry Chinese food.

While product placements are welcome on television shows, production teams need to make sure that the integration is seamless. If the consumer suspects forced placement, he/she will be discouraged in watching the show, and the product placement will not work.
