Glamour’s first product placement venture, an iPad app

Published on March 8, 2011 by   ·   No Comments

Glamour, the renowned fashion magazine, will take its first shot at product placement with a new reality series for the Apple iPad.

The mechanics of the campaign are simple. iPad users will download a Glamour app, which will allow them to buy clothes of characters in episodes of the “Glamour Girls.” All of the items are from Gap.

The series follows the life of a photographer and two stylists.

Last month alone, the app already sold 4,600 units and only four 10-12 minute episodes have been produced so far.

Unlike other branded entertainment productions, Glamour took a more transparent approach to product placement. The company openly admits that the show’s main purpose is product placement.
