Konami launches Metal Gear Solid branded gear

Product placement is common in video games. However, it does not always fall in the good side of consumers. Case and point: Naked Snake and his Axe-branded t-shirt. It was pretty clear why the product integration did not click. The game was set in 1974—nine years before Axe was ever introduced to the world.

Bearing this in mind, Konami—the creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise—devised a new way to integrate products with its games. “Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker” is a clothing brand based on the game. Its designs are inspired by characters in the game. The apparel will be available at Konami’s website.

According to top execs, the clothing line is for the fans. They also said that the key is creating clothes that aren’t costumes but for lifestyle.
