Have you seen “Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon”? Then you witnessed a breakthrough for Chinese-branded product placements in the Hollywood film industry.
For instance, Sam (played by Shia LaBeouf) sports a shirt from Meters/bonwe—a well-known Chinese clothing retailer. This marked the biggest Chinese branding campaign in a Hollywood movie, highlighting the determination of the Chinese companies to widen their market in the United States.
In addition to the clothes, some robots were also integrated with Chinese brands. Brains—one robot character—transforms into a Lenovo Edge computer, which is sold by China’s most popular PC manufacturer.
Some brands even get dialogue mentions, like Shuhua Low Lactose Milk. According to sources, the milk makers wanted Bumblee—Sam’s autobot car—to drink the milk, but the director did not like the idea.
