Nissan turns gamers into pro racers

Nissan is making gamers out of racers with a new branded entertainment venture, which is linked to a popular Sony PlayStation video game.

America’s top 16 “Gran Turismo 5” players will slug it out for a chance to join the Nissan team in a renowned racing event. The show will try to see if great game drivers are also exceptional on the track.

GT Academy has already had three runs in Europe and the first of five editions in the US will kick off in Sept 20.

The show sports several product placements from Nissan. Contestants will wear racing suits sporting the brand. There will also be Nissan race cars and other brand appearances.

The 16 finalists were selected from a pool of 54,000 Gran Turismo gaming experts.
