The biggest wedding of the year is taking place—in the cinema.
“Breaking Dawn” (Part 1) has premiered to sweep the box office in the past week. The movie had several product placements from luxury brands, including Manolo Blahnik and BMW.
Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart) wore Blahink’s exclusive Swan Embellished Satin Pump, which got close-ups in the film. And the shoes can be ordered for $1,295.
Carolina Herrera designed Bella’s wedding gown. Toned down versions are available for just under $800. The actual gown was estimated to cost $35,000.
Even the wedding invitations were product placements. The invites were printed out by Connor Fine Engraver & Stationer, and the company is offering the same designs for actual nuptials. Anichini, a luxury linen maker, got into the act as well, securing a product placement in the film’s honeymoon scene.
While these placements might have made money for the film, critics say that they may have had too much emphasis—especially during today’s economic climate.
